INTRO
In 2022, 3MBS celebrated the 10-year anniversary of their annual Marathon event. Headlining this milestone was Russian composer, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The event showcased Tchaikovsky’s most renowned works through live performances by Australia’s top musicians and orchestras. A single captivating poster design was needed to promote this event outside the Melbourne Recital Centre entrance.

Advertise the 10-year anniversary of the 3MBS Marathon
Incorporate themes of celebration, divinity, and heritage
The design took inspiration from classical Russian mosaic portraits and brought the aesthetic to a contemporary context. The well-known portrait of Tchaikovsky was digitally edited and separated into multiple organic pieces before being superimposed with traditional Russian crockery patterns. This added complexity and depth to the design, creating the requested connection to Russian heritage.
The 2022 3MBS Marathon was a resounding success showcasing the breadth of Tchaikovsky’s work to audiences over 5 concerts at the Melbourne Recital Centre, Melbourne’s preeminent concert hall for classical music.
